FOUND A DOG

If you’ve found a lost dog or suspect a dog may be stray then follow our advice on what to do.

Contact your local authority

Report the dog to your local authority who will be able to come and collect the animal from you.

If this is not possible, take the stray to your local rescue centre. Our London centre accepts stray dogs 24 hours a day. Our Old Windsor and Brands Hatch centres accept stray dogs between 9am and 5pm. Please contact us before bringing the dog to us.

Keeping the dog in your home until owners are found

If you decide to keep the dog in your home then you should do the following:

  • Take the dog to your local vet or rescue centre to be scanned for a microchip

  • Report the dog to your local authority in case they get contacted by his owner

  • Report the missing dog to your local rescue centres and vets as many of them will keep a lost and found database

  • Spread the word - create a found poster and put it up around the area where you found the dog, share a photo of the dog on social media and on any lost dogs websites.

Our Lost Dogs Line is open seven days a week from 8am until 7pm to receive reports of missing or found animals within the M25 area. The team also works with other lost and found agencies around the country to help reunite as many dogs and cats with their worried owners as possible.

Call 020 7627 9245 or fill in our form.

If you find the dog's owner please remember to inform those who are still looking and take down any found posters.
